“How long does it take?” is the question the desk is asked most, and the honest answer has three parts, because a top-up passes through three stages that are not equally predictable.
Stage one: your request reaching a person
This stage depends entirely on when you send it. The desk is staffed Sunday to Thursday from 9:00 to 18:00 and Friday to Saturday from 10:00 to 15:00. A request arriving inside those windows is normally read within minutes.
A request sent at 2 a.m. waits for the morning. It is not lost and it does not need resending — it simply sits in the queue until the desk opens. If a top-up genuinely cannot wait, a phone call is the right tool: +971 4 512 7840 reaches a person directly rather than joining a queue.
Stage two: confirmation
This is the stage people do not expect, and it is deliberate. Before anything is placed, someone contacts you to read back the number and the amount, and to state the service fee. Within desk hours the whole exchange usually takes under half an hour from the moment your request lands.
Its length depends mostly on you. If the contact detail you left is one you are watching, confirmation is quick. If the email goes to an address you check weekly, the request sits waiting on your reply rather than on our work. The single most effective way to speed up a top-up is to leave a phone number you will actually answer.
It is fair to ask why this stage exists at all, given that it is the slow one. The answer is in the third stage.
Stage three: the operator delivering the credit
Once you have confirmed and settled, the top-up is placed and the operator's systems deliver the credit to the line. This is normally a matter of minutes and it is the part we control least — it runs on the operator's infrastructure, not ours.
It is also the stage that cannot be undone. Delivered prepaid credit belongs to whichever number received it, with no reversal available from the operator. That irreversibility is the entire justification for stage two: a confirmation call costs half an hour, while a wrong digit costs the whole amount.
Putting the three together
Inside desk hours, with a contact detail you are watching, a top-up typically completes within the hour. Outside desk hours, add the wait until the next working morning. Every request receives contact within 24 hours regardless.
What makes it slower
- Sending at night, over a weekend outside the Friday and Saturday window, or on a public holiday.
- Leaving only an email address that you do not check often.
- A mistyped contact detail, which means our confirmation never arrives.
- An amount above AED 1,000, which needs a conversation before it can be processed.
Three of those four are fixed by filling the form carefully. The fourth is fixed by calling instead.
